I'm not trying to put those issues on the same level as issues faced by minority groups. I'm saying that white people can and do suffer racial prejudice, racial stereotyping, and racial disadvantages.
I wouldn't even mind downplaying the specific examples I mentioned by (a) recognizing that they are a reality and (b) citing the advantages of diversity as grounds for the discrepancy.
But it seems counter-productive and dangerous to pretend like whites cannot be victimized by their race. As a person with a mixed background who attended a very racially diverse and segregated school, I've experienced things firsthand that compel me to be more cautious. I just feel like we would be better served by being inclusive and thoughtful with how we handle the problem.
"Whites can't be the victims of racism. You're an idiot who doesn't understand racism." is not the right way, in my opinion.
