Btw thanks for the link. Just read it again, the article specifically mentions the 90s when talking about consumers buying a lot of catalog CDs. WW sales in 2000 and 2001 were still nearly as high as the previous years

The problem I see with this argument is that BEYONCÉ was branded as a visual album, and "Grown Woman" is part of that visual experience. Also, it may be labeled as a "Bonus Video," but it comes on every version of the album. It's the same thing with "Radar" on Circus. "Radar" is listed as a "bonus track," but it comes on every single version of the album, so is it really a bonus track at that point? And "Grown Woman" has always been consistently towards the top of the iTunes music video chart (it's currently the top-charting music video from the original BEYONCÉ album on the Music Video Chart), so clearly the Pepsi advertisements, tour performance, etc. did get people excited for the song/new music, even if it wasn't a major smash.

Perhaps, or perhaps it's just a good video that people like to buy. Also it has ONLY been released as a bonus video (meaning it's not released as an MP3) so in that way it truly is a bonus and speaks to why the video is doing so well, because it is clearly not part of the track list of the album.
Anyway, if you want to make Grown Woman be promotion for the album.. sure. But it's quite weak promotion: a song with no release and no video that was already leaked onto the internet and was created for a Pepsi commercial released 8 months prior is why BEYONCÉ went Platinum in a few weeks with no other promotion?

Exactly. So why would people go out of their way and spend $1.99 on a video just so that they could have the audio as well? If people hadn't heard the song before, I doubt they would have taken much notice of a bonus video on an album with a plethora of other videos. The commercials and performances clearly left enough of an impression on people to get them to spend $1.99 just so that they could have the audio to listen to, and, ultimately, whether as a bonus video or not, it is still part of the album.

No, she has been consistent over the last 16 years. She may have sold a huge amount of albums in her first few years and declined in that sense but in other aspects of her career she has progressed.

No, and anybody saying ''yes'' is either delusional or pressed. The album sales she achieved with her first two albums are not possible to reach anymore. She's still been the top bitch in pop music since 2004. Her ''Circus'' era was probably one of her most successful eras ever. A #1 platinum album, a #1 global hit, her highest grossing tour, plus her celebrity was through the roof especially around 2007-2009. Anyway, I'm not going to spend too much time explaining this to her haters because truth is...they already know. Don't be mad just because all of that ''longevity'' your fave has achieved will never match Britney's legendary career. EVER.

That's the real issue here. Certain fans if a certain singer are so transparent and insecure. The way they ran in here

But you're using your own logic against you. You said it might as well be part of the album - not a bonus, and now it's just a bonus that people wouldn't notice?
So ya… maybe the commercials left an impression but that really only affects the video itself, not the entire album. Or do you think people loved the commercial so much that when they scanned the track list and saw the bonus video they decided to spend 15.99 to get it?
Anyway, no it's not promotion because it is merely a bonus song featured on the album. It doesn't promote the album it promoted PEPSI and was never attached to her new album.

I was speaking hypothetically. Had people never heard Grown Woman before and it had been surprise released along with the rest of the album but still listed as a "bonus video", people probably wouldn't have paid it much attention (or at least not as much attention as the rest of the songs and videos on the album). The fact is, however, that people were exposed to Grown Woman before the album was released and the song is ultimately on the album in some capacity, whether it is a "bonus video" or not, so a song that is on every version of the album WAS promoted, even if that song is in the from of a "bonus video" on the album. Normally I would agree with what you are saying. Grown Woman IS only a bonus video on the album and is not an individual song, but the album was marketed and sold as a visual album, and as I said before, Grown Woman is part of that visual experience.

Grown Woman isn't on the album its a bonus video
7 singles? (DRil, Partition, Xo,Pretty Hurts, Flawless, 7/11) thats 6

Isn't Ring Off the international single?
There isn't a version of BEYONCE that doesn't have "Grown Woman." How is it not on the album?
She performed at the second biggest promotional event (biggest in the U.S.) to pop off her promotional era.

Beyonce did NO promotion for her album once it was released or before it was released. And if you're going to say she did that would mean you acknowledge that Britney has done promo for ALL her albums, including the GH because if I recall correctly, My Prerogative, the video, was released before the GH was released and it could be viewed FOR FREE. And we need not forget that it also came with a DVD.
So my point was to refute your illogical point that Britney is the only pop girl to have a platinum album without any promo.
And Grown Woman isn't a track on the album hun and the SB and Pepsi campaigns were not promo for the album. That would also mean you would have to acknowledge that every single Britney promo appearance for her perfums, water, other endorsements would count as promo for ALL of her albums as well.
|
My point was that no pop girl could send an album Platinum without promo and that the closest the girls in the OP got was GH:MP which only got there because it was a greatest hits. You may want to re-read my posts because you're only agreeing with me there.

Obviously but that's enough and better than the acts you mention that barely made some impact with 12738273 years, albums and singles.
Other cases of frontloaded could be Gaga, Avril or Christina.

ATRL seems to agree that Britney's career was indeed frontloaded, looking at the poll results. Huh.
