Her moment long since passed, Willa tried to mount a comeback in late 2003 with this raunchy girl power anthem. It failed to gain traction with audiences, and her redundantly-named second album, SexySexObsessive, was shelved, banishing her to a second career of Dancing With the Stars appearances and straight-to-DVD Anna Nicole Smith biopics.
Best bit: the dancehall breakdown, which elevates the song into true bop territory
The music video... depicts a night of white-girl-wasted fun: lady posses, dirty dancing and male strippers.
"The Itch” (2000) More
Hot 100: #45
Days on TRL: —
Overall score: 5.25 High score:9 (Poxy, Kyle-X, Penk) Low score:1 (MP2K, MWB, Taste of Honey, BlueTimberwolf)
So cute and bubbly during her first era, Vitamin C returned for a second round—as so many pop girls do—all sexed up. Now a nose-singing, midriff-baring Britney wannabe with elaborate dance routines, this ode to yeast infections was her last single to make any impact on the charts. In typical cross-promotion of the day, "The Itch" was featured on the soundtrack for the teen comedy Get Over It, in which Vitamin C cameoed, and the film's stars, Kirsten Dunst and Mila Kunis, appear in the video.
Best bit: probably the dance breakdown after the middle eight, where she's not singing
The music video... may have been the blueprint for Jessica Simpson's "Irresistible."
"Kids In America” (2002) No Secrets
Hot 100: —
Days on TRL: —
Overall score: 5.40 High score:10 (Poxy, FunkyDinevo, Cherry Noir) Low score:1 (Truth Teller, Taste of Honey, V3$$3L.)
Arriving as the bubblegum era was already winding down, No Secrets was more of a staple on Nickelodeon than MTV during their short career. They got their start with this chirpy cover of Kim Wilde's 1981 new wave classic, which was featured in Nick's animated film Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius.
Best bit: the cutesy da da da da da das
The music video... isn't available on YouTube. Enjoy this performance from the 2002 Kids' Choice Awards pre-show instead.
