Reminds me of that "most horrible languages" thread, with German Dutch and Arabic getting all the votes.

That's so funny, because Dutch people think the same of German. I guess it's because of our 'g' though.
I like German, used to be pretty good at it, not anymore though. Do you speak Dutch?

Yes I am. And I'm doing my studies in Dutch, so yeah, I definitely speak "some" of it.

Oh, lol. Finally someone who speaks Dutch.

Why would anyone want to learn dutch ? Unless, like me, it's an official language in your country ? I mean don't make me pull out the Wikipedia receipts of the list of countries where it's spoken (aka like 5 or something

I was in Budapest a few weeks ago. Now Hungarian is a mess, their pronunciation.

Exactly. Both think the other one is awful.
You guys just have a lot of that 'ch' sound from the throat. We have those words too but not nearly as much as you.
Nahh, I solely understand it. I have relatives there.
I speak other languages, though.

Netherlands, Belgium, Netherlands Antilles, Surinam and Southern Africa, I think? So yes, 5. Just imagine if they hadn't given New York to the UK back then, would've been so much easier.
But no, there's no reason to learn Dutch really. I spoke to a guy from Venice once though, that was actually chose Dutch as his major studies.

I for one dislike German more than Dutch. And that's not because I NOW fluently speak the latter, but because I have been in the position of someone who doesn't speak neither of them, so no bias.

Where do your relatives live?
To me, Dutch feels cleaner than German though. You seem to have all those 'ei', 'au' sounds. But yes, I know, you speak way too many languages

That's interesting, especially considering the situation in Belgium with Dutch being the dominant language and all. I thought most people from Wallonia disliked Dutch (assuming you are from Wallonia)

Same here. I am good at languages, but my spacial acuity for example is a mess.
Roosendaal is pretty close to my home town. Never been there though!

Correction, French is the dominant one, that's why Flemish people hate Brussel, because despite being the Capital, everyone and everything there is in french.
This country is such a mess, both folks just loathe each other. Having lived in both parts, now Flanders, I'm more neutral.
Still spend most of my time in Brussel tho. You'll rarely see me in one of the big Flemish cities.
