When the servers are slow, ATRL has a message that says "ATRL is over capacity right now". I find this somewhat boring.
When YouTube has an error, for example, says
"Oops! Something went wrong. A team of highly-trained monkeys has been dispatched to deal with this situation. If you see them, show them this information: " and gives the error number.
When Reddit is slow it says
"we took too long to make this page for you" and shows their mascot, Snoo, stuck under a pile of upvotes.
My own forum has this charming message:
ATRL should have a more fun, humorous message. Don't you agree?
