no shade but i've noticed a bit of this behaviour, and i was a bit confused when madonna pushed boundaries whereas katy stays in them. they strike me as very different artists so i thought the hybrid stanning was odd

I've always thought it was weird. But it only happens online where they have to bandwagon to someone else's biggest rival.

Real madonna fans that don't spend time on pop forums are more likely to be fond of Lady Gaga rather than Katy, and that's the truth.

I stan for Katy because she is so respectful to Madonna.

She openly and freely talks about her inspirations in Madonna.
She pays tribute to her and all in all seems like a down to earth honest person.

I also think she makes great BOPS.

I guess my ulterior motive would be that she has respect for the person who greatly inspired her and hey, Im a big fan. Gotta love her for that

I think that's exactly why they stan for her tbh. The elephant in the room is obviously the Gaga/Madonna thing. Madonna was known for religious iconography, integrating homosexuality and Catholicism, etc. and when Gaga started doing that, she got branded with Madonna comparisons. Some were positive, like "the next Madonna" and others were negative, like accusations of plagiarism and "trying to be" Madonna.

Katy has steered clear from all of that. There's not very many similarities to Madonna. First it was 1950s pin-ups, then a candy theme, then a prismatic/holographic theme.

Madonna and her fans clearly don't like that Gaga did things that were overtly similar to Madonna (both visually and sonically) so obviously they're going to support someone Gaga and her fans are have a rivalry with.

That's just my two cents.

Same reasons why some Monsters stan Taylor as of late.

Out of convenience. Truly cringeworthy and embarrassing. Most of them hate Gaga more than they actually enjoy Katy. Kinda speaks volumes about Katy as well.

Rihinvention that's not really true tho. Because again, Madonna fans in real life (for the most part) actually like Gaga. Only the "stans" dislike her because of the rival thing (though if they consider Gaga to be Madonna's rival, then it's very ironic).

I know many Madonna fans in real life that like Lady Gaga. And there are many more. It's just natural. Lady Gaga is what Madonna was 30 years ago and what Britney was 15-17 years ago. POP FEMALE PHENOMENON with everything, from image, to hype, to good music, to performances etc.

Whereas the Katy bandwagon ONLY became a thing after Roar outsold Applause. Why didn't they bandwagon when Katy was having 6 number 1s off 1 album ? Because back then Gaga was still bigger (2011-2012).
