Telling a young woman that owning her sexuality is "acting like a *****" is the definition of hypocrisy. I'm very disappointed in Bette and I hope she apologizes before she damages the positive message she spent years to spread to millions of people.

Its working for her now. But when you start relying on sexy it takes the focus away from your talent. Which in turn could shorten your career. Does she wanna be a respected singer with a long career?

I don't think Bette really needed to namedrop here, but at the same time, she's entirely right. Ariana isn't exactly the best example considering how many other pop artists do it, but there's a lot of truth in the statement because it's unnecessary. I've always felt this way. You don't have to sell sex to make good music, and it's a shame that no one nowadays seems to understand it. I have a huge amount of respect for artists like Adele and Bette Midler who strongly believe in the fact that music does not have to be sexualized, because it really doesn't. I understand sex is a natural part of life, but it's being used for the wrong reasons. It's just a big publicity stunt now. Everyone is using sex to sell records and it's disgusting because that's not what music is about. You can be classy and successful at the same time.

Ariana is an adult, if she wishes to flaunt off her skin she can (which she barely does anyways). Bette should mind her own business and stop acting pressed.

I don't consider Ariana nearly as racy as some of her pop contemporaries or ones that have come before her. She was in lingerie and writhing around on a couch.. but there was nothing crass or distasteful about it IMO. I'm not even an Ariana stan.. in fact, she kind of annoys me most of the time, but Bette (as much as I respect her) is out of line and a tad hypocritical for me this time..

Bette has always mocked being sexual, she's trying to pass on advice, she's not saying she's innocent. People are just looking for reasons to clapback at her, but the truth remains.

Why does this woman think she has the right to dictate how Ariana should present herself and her music. Ariana should do whatever she wants. If she wants to be conservative, that's okay, and if she doesn't, that's okay too. What's so hard to understand about that?
