Britney hasn't exactly changed music for me. The only thing is she has remained one of my favourites for years, unlike some people who I grow out of.
For example for the past 4 years I've had an obsession with a certain artist in each year:
2005: The Pussycat Dolls
2006: Nelly Furtado/Chamillionaire/Danity Kane
2007: Fergie
2008: Katy Perry
2009: Lady Gaga
But my first favourite artists include:
S Club 7, The Spice Girls, All Saints, Aqua, The Vengaboys, Steps, Five, B*Witched, Cleopatra etc.
These were all the 90's leading into the 2000's. But over the years I've learned to appreciate songs that were out in the years I liked these artists such as Oasis, Third Eye Blind, Sarah McLachlan, Faith Hill, Shania Twain. And I became a huge fan of Joss Stone in 2004, and a big fan of Gorillaz & Blur in other years. So my music taste changes frequently. If an artist(s) or band(s) like S Club 7 or Aqua came out now, I could probably still listen to it the way I listened to songs like that in the 90's. Sadly, the only artist(s) or band(s) we get like that now are Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus, and even they aren't classed as cheesy
