The Iguala case only served as the cause to all of this.
I mean, Mexico's government has always been corrupt, aside from political parties, but PRI basically governed and constructed almost during a century the nation in which we live now. Compare 12 years to more than 70 years of power. In any case, they are blaming the president because he is the face (and literally the puppet) of his party, PRI, and of course no one wants them in front. Just as Monsiváis said, with PRI and Televisa together, they form the perfect dictatorship.

And this is what happens when a barely literate guy is chosen by a hungry corporation which runs the country. As a president he has been doing a mediocre job but in Mexico this is the rule and not the exception, every single president screws things (do not get me started on the last one, guilty of so many deaths). The cause for these protests is that people are tired of our country being an oligarchy and claiming to be a democracy. Sure, the missing students are a big deal but the main issue is how to become a democracy!

I completely agree with your post.
