So many people have an outbreak at their lip or other place from time to time, especially at stressful moments or whenever your immune system is a bit rubbish but many act like it's ebola 2.0 and you should be ashamed.

because oral herpes and genital herpes have different strains of viruses , yes the oral herpes virus can cause genital herpes but that is uncommon. so as a result if you have a cold sore its more normalized then if you have genital herpes which can be seen as more devious - so the stigma comes from the HSV-2 strain (aka the genital strain)
One guy I know has genital, and the other one oral herpes, and they don't seem too bothered by it. So they're either lying, or they really don't think it's that big a deal.

I don't think it has that much of a stigma, like someone else said 50-80 percent have it or will have it. Plus it doesn't really kill you or harm you. It's just an annoying thing. Also the number of reoccurrences happen like 1-2 times a year as time passes.
Genial herpes is another story, it still won't kill you but I think people see it as more "dirty". I do believe it's more annoying and causes more discomfort than oral herpes tho.
