Its probably pushed by huge labels with big singles artists. All this new rule is gonna be good for is murdering albums as we know it even further. Maybe its the aim?

Wow, everyone needs to chill out here, this could've been predicted months ago. And streaming is the way most people listen to music now, the charts should definitely reflect that to some extent. I disagree with the TEA thing though, because the lead single sales will really skew the pop girls up. That should start only after an album has been released. And I'm not sure how they will differentiate how much of an album constitutes a stream for the album and not just a stream for a couple of the songs. Best to wait and see on this.

Well, I know that many who are into certain radio genres totally ignore the new "Hot" charts for their genres and just compare the airplay charts with the past.

You could certainly just look at the new "Album Sales" chart or whatever it'll be called with the BB200 of the decades previous.

The BB200 itself is supposed to measure popularity (not necessarily sales only) so this change was expected but why do it when digital downloads are on the fall? Couldn't they have added TEA in 2008? or 2009 at the latest?

And you can't just say an album "sold" a certain amount. It sold a certain amount equivalent. The sales will still be the sales. Nielsen is still standard for that.

R8 will be number one for several weeks.

i doubt it. Her albums' songs have spent a total of 4 weeks at 300k+, which would be the equivalent of 30k+ on the new chart.

She's usually more of a steady singles seller than a huge weeks one, so each week she'd be helped a bit and would likely only take over when the competition's esp weak.

I cannot help but wonder if this reformulation of the Billboard 200 Chart means Billboard is waiting an extra week to start the 2015 Chart Year. This would be a later start than any previous year. As for Teenage Dream, the CD will finally reach Triple Platinum status on its own after the Super Bowl, since Katy Perry is the Halftime Performer, and she will get a huge boost that last two to three weeks due to the exposure to over 100 million people.

Why are they waiting one more week before debuting the chart? If this was the plan, they could've announced it next week instead.
