Katy just came off a huge era with teenage dream, as did taylor with Red.Yet when we look at their new album sales taylor completely blew katy out of the water. When we look at their singles taylors seem to shoot to the top of the chart wheras katy is struggling to get her singles to peak Why did the public prefer to get behind 1989 moreso than Prism?
1989 is a quality album, PRISM isn't. Taylor is acclaimed, Katy isn't. Taylor is a true superstar with POWER, Katy isn't to the degree Taylor is. Taylor has more appeal to a wider audience, etc.
The album was well-received but the Lord is album seller juggernaut, that is like saying why Bey's album wasn't well-received if the Lord has outsold it too. She is just too massive that makes all of the girls look like flops when they're doing great, they are few exceptions but I won't go there...

Taylor is more likable and had a better first single.
1989 didn't rely on blatant current pop culture references and tacky cliches. 1989 is pretty timeless in that it doesn't really reference current pop culture too much.
Taylor's vocals are better on 1989, surprisingly. 1989 was pure quality.
Katy kinda just did a vapid rehash of Teenage Dream.
Clean itself destroys whole PRISM
And 1989 doesnt have useless tracks such as TIHWD and International Smile
Why should you be surprised
Katy should cut more Dr. Luke imo
