Every white girl's father's worst nightmare': High School students walk out over white assistant principal's shocking retweet poking fun at interracial couples
Students at a Norfolk, Virginia, high school staged a walk-out Monday to protest a racially charged Twitter post mocking interracial couples, which has been sent out by a high-ranking school administrator who is white.
Miss Strickland, a recent hire at the predominantly black high school, retweeted a post from the satirical account @OrNahhTweets that featured a prom photo showing seven couples where all the women were white and all the young men were African-American
The image was accompanied by a caption that read: ‘every white girl's father's worst nightmare Or Nah?'
'I could have been any one of the boys in the picture,' Booker T Washington junior Michael LeMelle, who is African-American, told the station WAVY. 'And I really don’t see myself... as anyone’s worst nightmare.
LeMelle was one of about a dozen students who walked out of their classes Monday to call the administration’s attention to the ongoing controversy.
Students said that they have appealed to the faculty last week to look into the retweet, but their pleas have fallen on deaf ears.
The NAACP also has weighed in on the scandal, saying in a statement to ABC 13NewsNow that the civil rights organization has launched its own investigation into the controversy surrounding the racially insensitive tweet.
I lived in Norfolk, racism isn't as much of a problem like in other areas. The students protesting shows the intolerance they have to racism in that area.
i hate to agree with you but it was obviously a joke. it was in poor taste and not really funny but i feel like theyre turning it into a big deal because she's the assistant principal. if it was one of their friends they would just laugh and get over it.
Oh, the source is Daily Mail I should have known by the thread title:

I knew this was one of those awful Daily Mail articles as soon as I moused over it...
They have this horrible habit of captioning all their photos with the words: "incredible moment" / "terrifying moment" / "horrible instant" / "joyous moment"
I don't know who's editing that paper but whoever it is [nanana]
Um yes she should be fired. Joke or not, she is in a position of power over those black students and nobody wants to be in a school wondering if the person who has power over them is racist or will be biased towards them.
I honestly don't see why they're getting that upset, when this was just a joke. LAUGH! Booker T students say/do worse than this. A black person probably made the meme too.. If anything, she's poking fun at her own race.
EDIT: As what the comment below me said. If she was a racist, she would be at the wrong damn school It's predominately black, with white students trying to act black I agree as a principal, it's of poor taste, but not to the point where walkouts are necessary
Even in the case that she's not racist and it was still a joke, it's still unacceptable. When you take a position as a teacher or school worker, especially one in administration, your public "jokes" still need to be professional. No excuses.
She's the principal it is not inappropriate for someone of her position? why is that hard to get?
Maybe not fired but certainly under review for a tacky joke that is NOT even funny.
Some people have no sense. Like, even if you thought this was funny, shouldn't you realize that as an employee at a school, people wouldn't take kindly to you retweeting something like this?
And not a bunch of gays telling people to get over it. Y'all know damn well if this was a picture of a bunch of gay couples y'all would be crying about it.
She's really dumb. It's 2014, she should realize Facebook, Twitter, etc are meant to be PUBLIC representations of yourself and you should assume that everyone will have access to whatever you post on there.
She should be fired. Who wants a potentially racist administrator in charge of a school full of black students? Students shouldn't have to feel uncomfortable just for existing in their school.
And who wants someone that DUMB in charge? Only a complete moron would think a teacher or administrator's public social media posts aren't going to be scrutinized.
