Mediatraffic is not and never has been anything more than an estimate by a couple of German guys. They even say this on their own website. Why do people on atrl pretend they are accurate receipts? They are not. How exactly can mediatraffic come up with numbers for markets that do not have any public data for sales? They just make up those numbers. Why do you think that no official chart or certification board use them?
The only reliable source for ww sales are the IFPI and they don't use Mediatraffic. The labels know how many copies they have sold and shipped in various markets a lot more than some guys in Germany without any insider industry connections. And yes the label is talking about shipments, even the IFPI talk about shipments. Until sales become totally digital then there will never be ww sales figures, only shipments.
