Also, are they trying to claim they're not related? Cause the official Mario Kart Wii strategy guide says otherwise, using the term "sister" to describe her relationship with Toad (once again identifying her by gender):

I'm not saying that making them genderless isn't an interesting and overall sound idea. I'm just saying that they probably made that decision very recently in spite of already explicitly describing Toadette as a girl and as Toad's sister. They shouldn't act like there's never been specifications on gender when one of them got pretty clear classification.

Personally, I think this is a strictly promotional decision, but that's just me.

True, this could be just about the Captain Toad game (assuming the phrase "[in the game]" was added by IGN/Gamespot to personally specify the word "here"), but they also refer to the whole sentient mushroom idea in the focus of the Mario universe.

IMO, I feel like they're making a widespread statement that Toad and Toadettes do not have genders and are not related, which is why I posted said stuff. I don't dislike Nintendo (proof's in the avatar) and my intention is not to bash them; I think Toads being genderless actually makes sense, just doesn't previous assertions.

I understand your point. It's kind of a reach to expect him to be consistent on this with games he didn't direct though.
Also a bit strange that he elaborated on such a subtle detail. Did fans really care that much?

Maybe Nintendo could be pandering to the gender socialites' agenda.
