Neither was her American Life video or her accident where she nearly died.

In the 00s: VMA, Superbowl, & adoptions were the 3 biggest stories she had in 10+ years. She prob. made more stories than that in 1991 alone.

The A-Rod affair was sort of a thing when I lived in NY but I doubt it left the confines of NY Post/Page Six articles.

I guess Britney after the Circus era entered that post-Music era Madonna period in a way. Insane, 24/7 media coverage from her debut until then, and since then she's still a presence but not nearly as much.
