So I have put some serious thought into all of this. I am 18 and am currently in my first year at university in Canada..however I find myself more and more lost within my program and I am having some academic issues due to a lot of problems surrounding me here in Canada (family issues/loss etc..) so I put some considerable amount of thought and I'm thinking of moving and applying to an American college and to start fresh (I'm thinking of finally doing something in the arts instead of what I was doing before within the social sciences field.

However this transition would mean I will be about a year and a half late because if everything goes well then I will start either in January or next fall semester in an american college. The thought of this troubles me... I mean I dont think I can credit my previous credits so I will start late

That's not late

I deferred a year and had no issues. There's numerous people in my course who are mid to late twenties

There's absolutely no shame in it (if that's partly what you're worried about) - I know lots of mature students, and your age is not far off the typical starting age anyway.

If your current circumstances are taking a toll on your studies then you should make a change that you know will benefit you. Best of luck to you whatever you do tho

omg thank you guys so much all 3 of you..your posts lifted my spirit so much. I felt down this entire month ..because I know I cant succeed here and in the program im taking because my heart isnt in it and the thought of being late was dreary and scary. but you guys rock and quickly made my stress level go way down haha! thank you so much

There are people where I am who are 20,21,22 and nobody judges them or whatever. I mean you're not going to be the only one.

I'm in the same situation as I also started college and I'm lost I don't know if I should change or not... and I don't really know what else to do .

Anyway, if you find something that might interest you then do it and forget your age or whatever.

Starting college and graduating young is overrated.

Don't worry about that. My best friend actually started studying one thing at collegue, found out he didn't like it, restarted another studies, didn't like either. He "lost" 3 year figuring out what he wanted to be but I think they were worthy, now he's happy studying what he wants, even if he is "3 years late".

There's a 45 years old woman in my class. The good sis Jennifer Natasha doesn't seem to have any problem with the classes so far, so I don't think why you would have any.

Do what's right for you. In my family my brother took 2 years off, my other brother has taken semesters off twice, and I'm starting a semester early. There should be no course of life anyone forces you into

There's a good chance you can transfer credit pretty easily; are you sure you can't? I mean, I'd settle on choosing a school and talking to that school before assuming you can't. It's very often a lot more easy than you'd think!

College is not high school. there no shame at going at any age, your theri to learn. Unless your theri to party then you should start at 18 or you wont get in the party in stacy's dorm

Im currently in a university myself but I plan on leaving this December to go community college back home. I don't think I'm ready or mature enough to handle a university, I just wanna stay home and take it easy. Maybe when I grow up and finish CC I'll be more mature and can finally do university and WELL. I don't care about age, I just know eventually I'll graduate, be it that I'm 28 or 38.
