Not trying to be shady however if Katy Perry is 1 then certainly Rihanna is too! 1 it didn't take her 7+ albums to TOP The 200 albums chart and it didn't take her til her 3rd album and a song passed down from Britney and Mary J to her to be the star she is NOW

Katy may have small first week sales but Teenage Dream is the eighth (?) longest charting female album of all time. Having longevity with your sales >>>>> having frontloaded sales of a forgotten album.

Katy & Rih might not have first week sales, but they still have huge longevity & can perform similarly/better than the girls who have high first week sales, like Beyonce, for example & Britney who had recent huge first week sales during the Circus era.

Heck... Rihanna and Katy even pull final numbers similar/better to the Red & Speak Now albums (both which debuted with 1m+ first week).

Circus did 4.5 and Blackout did 3.5M WW. ..... I LOVE how U left out her 1st 4 albums and Greatest Hits .... U girls.

Blackout did 1_mil in the US!

Also this is about 1st wk sales not overall as clearly wins by default in that category

It has something to do with the fanbase, Adele who wasn't even considered a big pop artist back then opened with 350k

Some artists who have big opening numbers still sell the same amount as the "singles artist" albums.
Even some of the "singles artists" albums sold more than the big opening week albums.

Casual fans of Katy and Rih understand that their eras won't be front-loaded, and will have longevity with generally 5+ singles each time. Therefore it's more eventful to wait and listen to each single and buy them separately before buying the album.

Longevity >>>>> big first week sales.

I don't know why but it doesn't matter. They sell well in the end and that's what really matters. Some albums who have high first week sales end up selling less than albums with lower first week sales so...
