The actors aren't really at fault, are they? They're working in a tough industry and they needed work.

The Aaliyah fans, critics, etc. should direct their anger towards Lifetime, Wendy Williams, the writers, producers, etc.

Zendaya is already pretty established in the industry, so she can pass on roles if she wants. This is Alexandra's first starring role.

Good for her but this was still an awful movie with terrible acting and even worse casting choices. She's an actress and deserves to be criticized based on her performance. I get her wanting to do this role as it meant a lot to her, and ultimately it was going to go to someone. No hate towards her personally as I don't personally know her. Best of luck to her!

She isn't a fan, watch any one of her interviews on the biopic and you'll see if already her pathetic attempt at portraying Aaliyah wasn't enough. She has no idea who Aaliyah was as a person or artist and clearly didn't care that she didn't have enough time to do her proper prep/research.

She also knew Aaliyah's family didn't want this movie being made but she jumped on anyway, her failure to deliver in the role is just adding insult to injury. She's a grown woman and is just as much to blame for this mess as Wendy and company are, anyone involved in this atrocity deserves the lashings they are getting

It wasn't really her fault, I thought she was a cute attempt at Aaliyah but the overall movie was downright terrible.

I feel bad. She worked with what was given to her, it's more Wendy/Lifetime's fault than hers :/

Like many up and coming actors, she was working with a very dense and weak script that was penned from a young adult book that was pretty bland as well.

Without the involvement of the family or friends of those who were near and dear to Aaliyah, the actors really had to rely on whatever limited materials were available to them and their director for guidance. Also taking into consideration the production schedule, this movie was pumped out pretty quickly. These actors weren't given a fair shot to really dive deep and immerse themselves into their roles. They did the best with what they had. But the critics are focusing too much on the actual product itself that it's shedding negative light on the actors without considering their circumstances. Quite unfair.

They cast this girl almost right after after Zendaya backed out, and then they had to re-start production almost immediately. Aaliyah was a very multi-layered, multidimensional artist who had a lot of mystery and allure to her. If Alexandra had some more time, I think she could've nailed it. But like I said before, she did the best that she could with her already limited resources.

She needed work. You aren't being very mature about this.
