I don't know if I agree with that. You have people like Meghan Trainor coming out of nowhere smashing.....some other recent examples of new artists smashing are Hozier, Sam Smith, etc.

Well, I think she's talking more about artists that have been in the industry for a while. If they are no longer getting #1 hits, they are written off as irrelevant and their history doesn't matter. Britney would be a perfect example of this.
