It used to be mandatory. I know some older people who were disgusted when they found out kids no longer washed after PE, "they go around all stinking and sweaty? What's wrong with them?"

In high school/middle school, no. Only at the rec in college where there are private stalls.
With sex preditor teachers and tiny cameras these days, it's not smart to shower in a place like the picture in the OP. I mean I have Gigabytes of video featuring showers just like that one...

At our school it's enough to look at the showers to catch something contagious so no thanks, I think using a towel, wet wipes and deodrant are way more healthy than stepping into some fungus.
