Katy is in no way more talented than Taylor. Taylor obliterates Katy's average cliche-filled writing, makes better music overall, and is also the better performer. 1989 may be considered "generic" by some but if you actually listen to the full album Taylor has her own distinct style. She put her own spin on the music. A lot of Katy's music is faceless.
The overall packaging/brand of the two artists. Katy could release 1989 and still receive a 61 on Metacritic while Taylor could release PRISM and still get whatever score (76?) she got. The album/songs are interchangeable between the two but because of who they are and what they represent, they'll never be seen in the same light.

I don't think anyone but delusional stans are going to say they truly think either of their musical styles (which are more or less the same, except Taylor ventures into slightly deeper territory lyrically) are high-brow or particularly genius beyond their catchiness and sleekly produced nature as a pop product.
1989 isn't generic? 1989 is something what good pop music used to be and Taylor is bringing it back and make it a timeless classic. PRISM is following the trend and others are trying to do, it has a few bops but most of the songs are pretty bad.
it isn't. both are generic but taylor is the most basic of all Probably the most unlikely popstar in history. Absolutely nothing unique or interesting about her at all.
