East-Europe brings Europe down, South Europe is comparable to the average US state and West Europe and Scandinavia is like San Francisco but then way bigger. I'd say that Europe is more accepting to not discredit West-Europe and Scandinavia, which are very forward-pushing. Russia is a seperate continent

South Europe for real? They are each a different story. In Greece you can't even register a civil partnership. That's worse then in Croatia, Czech Republic and Hungary where you actually can...
In Italy for instance you have no legal rights and the police registers you if you enter a gay club... Of course it's just like in New York NOT. I have so many gay Italian friends who are in the closet coz their family is not accepting...
Spain on the other hand is pretty liberal and gay marriage is possible.
People ought to be more careful when talking about regions in Europe because each country is different.
BUT Europe overall I guess. (Russia is in Eurasia so it should not count.)
this might be interesting to check...
