Band Aid 30 details revealed: line-up to feature Adele, One Direction, more
The festive charity single will be re-recorded with the likes of Adele, One Direction and Ed Sheeran in aid of the Ebola crisis.
Sir Bob Geldof and Midge Ure have officially announced Band Aid 30.
A star-studded line-up of artists will release a re-recorded version of the charity single Do They Know It’s Christmas? on November 17. It will cost 99p to download and £4 to purchase on CD.
Adele, One Direction, Coldplay’s Chris Martin and U2’s Bono are all confirmed to be taking part, as well as Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding, Olly Murs, Emeli Sande, Elbow, Sam Smith and Bastille. More acts are expected to be announced in the coming days.
Recording of the track will take place this Saturday (November 15), with the the lyrics altered to target the Ebola crisis in West Africa.
The single artwork will be provided by renowned artist Tracy Emin, while Paul Epworth (Adele, Florence + the Machine) will produce the track.
This year marks 30 years since Bob Geldof and Midge Ure wrote the festive song, which was released to raise money for victims of the 1984 Ethiopian famine.
Two updated versions of Do They Know It's Christmas? have since been released since the original, the first in 1989 and second in 2004, which featured artists including Will Young, Joss Stone and Dizzee Rascal. The 1984 version is one of the biggest selling singles of all-time, having shifted over 3.75 million copies to date.
