As I continue to work around the layout for the Blokk of Rokk as it enters its second year of being the rokkingest weekly countdown on ATRL, Metallica tries to hold on to #1 for a second week, as the competition continues to amp up the pressure. Plus, the first top ten debut since Metallica! It's fairly obvious, too...at least, I hope it is.

Week of January 9th, 2009
Metallica - All Nightmare Long (Weeks: 4 | Peak: #1(Two Weeks) | Last Week: #1) The Killers - Spaceman (Weeks: 8 | Peak: #1(Two Weeks) | Last Week: #2) Slipknot - Dead Memories (Weeks: 5 | Peak: #3 | Last Week: #7) Bigelf - Money, It's Pure Evil (Weeks: 7 | Peak: #4 | Last Week: #4) Franz Ferdinand - Ulysses (Weeks: 9 | Peak: #2 | Last Week: #3) The Gaslight Anthem - Old White Lincoln (Weeks: 2 | Peak: #6 | Last Week: #11) The Ting Tings - Be the One (Weeks: 2 | Peak: #7 | Last Week: #12) Shiny Toy Guns - Ghost Town (Weeks: 8 | Peak: #2 | Last Week: #5) Paramore - Decode (Weeks: 14 | Peak: #1(Four Weeks) | Last Week: #8) Oasis - I'm Outta Time (Weeks: 1 | Peak: #10 | Last Week: N/A) The Prodigy - Invaders Must Die (Weeks: 6 | Peak: #6 | Last Week: #6) Kings of Leon - Use Somebody (Weeks: 10 | Peak: #10 | Last Week: #10) TV on the Radio - Golden Age (Weeks: 10 | Peak: #2 | Last Week: #9) Metallica - Cyanide (Weeks: 2 | Peak: #14 | Last Week: #16) Home Video - I Can Make You Feel It (Weeks: 3 | Peak: #15 | Last Week: #17) 10 Years - So Long, Goodbye (Weeks: 12 | Peak: #5 | Last Week: #13) Weezer - The Greatest Man That Ever Lived (Weeks: 5 | Peak: #14 | Last Week: #14) (hed)p.e. - Ordo (AB Chao) (Weeks: 1 | Peak: #18 | Last Week: N/A) The Ting Tings - That's Not My Name (Weeks: 12 | Peak: #9 | Last Week: #15) The Offspring - Kristy, Are You Doing Okay? (Weeks: 9 | Peak: #17 | Last Week: #20)

Third Eye Blind - Non-Dairy Creamer (Peak: #15 | Last Week: #18)
MGMT - Kids (Peak: #11 | Last Week: #19)

Stellastarr* - Sweet Troubled Soul
I'd like to thank Bill and Joe, JGib's Italian Restaurant, FOUR MORE AWESOME COUNTDOWNS!, Soldiers Need Not Apply, Don Juan, The Dots of Rafael, Rod's Secret of Nim (I've heard the album, but I didn't know that that song was a single), OH NOES~! ALIENS AND RAINBOWS...TOGETHER!, Mr. Jone, Eteru, Brute?, Ren's Zone, One Million Indians, Mop Castrator Steven, Ricardo Montalban, and Fiyah for commenting, numbering, whatevering, you know the drill.
You guys might get an early treat, because I'm only counting up until this week for the top 20 of the first year of the Blokk, so it might be up as early as this weekend. Of course, it's a little harder to determine the mainstream countdown, so that will, probably, have to wait until next Friday.
Anywho, next week, Metallica goes for three in a row. Can Slipknot make the leap to #1? How high will Oasis jump in its second week? Will Paramore EVER fall out of the top ten? Find out next week, as the Blokk of Rokk celebrates its one year anniversary!

"I'm Outta Time" is good but I'm not as crazy about it as you are.
The top 5 is untouchable.

Top 20 Blokk of Rokk Songs of Year One
Okay, part one of the three part countdown-fest, finally. I can't guarantee that the other two will be up tomorrow, though, because I'm walking the internet tight rope, so to speak. Oh, and college, too, of course. Because of this, no graphics for this top 20. There may be album/single covers for the Mainstream countdown (which is looking like a top 10, at the moment), but that's about it, too. Just enjoy the fact that there's going to be three countdowns.
Also, keep in mind that this is over the first 52 editions of the Blokk of Rokk. The forthcoming Blokk of Rokk, which has not been completed, of course, does not count toward this list.
The Top 20 Songs of The Blokk of Rokk: Year One
The Closest Five Serj Tankian - Sky Is Over
Weeks: 10 | Peak: #1(Two Weeks)
- Tied for the least amount of weeks for a #1 song, but it was the first #1.
Portishead - Machine Gun
Weeks: 10 | Peak: #1(Two Weeks)
- Tied for the least amount of weeks for a #1 song, but made a huge impact, when it was on top.
Ladytron - Runaway
Weeks: 13 | Peak: #2
- Another case of Ladytron being the bridesmaid and not the bride will be on the actual top 20.
The Killers - Spaceman
Weeks: 8 | Peak: #1(Two Weeks)
- Made a couple of HUGE jumps.
Metallica - All Nightmare Long
Weeks: 4 | Peak: #1(Two Weeks)
- The current #1, will have an impressive resume when its run is over.
[20] MGMT - Electric Feel
Weeks: 15 | Peak: #3
Run: 7-4-3-4-6-8-10-10-10-10-14-12-14-16-19
While it may not seem like the most impressive run at first glance, look at its run closely. It debuted in the top ten and ROSE after falling, even if it was only once. Not many songs can say that they were in the top ten for ten weeks, let alone ten consecutive, and it also had the longest consecutive run at a spot that wasn't #1: Four weeks at the #10 spot.
[19] Weezer - Pork and Beans
Weeks: 13 | Peak: #2
Run: 5-2-2-4-4-5-4-6-10-11-15-16-20
One of the great bridesmaids of all time, "Pork and Beans" just happened to run into "Kiss", "Hammerhead" AND "Ghosts", preventing Rivers and the gang from hitting the top. Poor Weezer.
[18] Apocalyptica - I'm Not Jesus
Weeks: 13 | Peak: #1(One Week)
Run: 16-10-3-2-1-2-2-3-6-7-12-16-18
For a song that rose and fell hard, this song had a strange amount of consistency. It spent six consecutive weeks in the top three, and nine consecutive in the top ten.
[17] Serj Tankian - Lie Lie Lie
Weeks: 16 | Peak: #1(Two Weeks)
Run: 7-10-10-15-19-N/A-14-9-4-2-1-1-3-7-11-14-19
"Lie Lie Lie" was on the very first Blokk of Rokk, but fell off after just five weeks. FOUR MONTHS LATER, it came back with a vengeance, and, in its tenth week, reached the elusive #1 spot. Only one other song can make the same procrastinating claim, and no other song can make the same claim after being off the countdown for four months.
[16] The Cure - Freakshow
Weeks: 16 | Peak: #1(One Week)
Run: 12-10-10-9-6-4-2-1-2-5-9-13-14-17-17-17
In terms of its slow rise and slow fall, it may be the ultimate Blokk of Rokk song. It debuts at #12, and yet, it still takes eight weeks for it to reach the top spot, and then, another eight to fall off.
[15] Franz Ferdinand - Ulysses
Weeks: 9 | Peak: #2
Run: 5-2-2-3-2-3-2-3-5
I'm probably ranking this too low, actually. This is a song that debuted in the top 5, and hasn't been out of the top five since its debut! And that was nine weeks ago! It's also the song with the dubious honor of being the longest running #2 without having reached #1, spending four non-consecutive weeks at the #2 position.
[14] Scars on Broadway - World Long Gone
Weeks: 15 | Peak: #1(Three Weeks)
Run: 18-12-6-2-1-2-2-1-1-2-5-9-14-16-19
"World Long Gone" is one of only three songs to return to the #1 position, doing so in an intense battle with a song that's higher up on the list. In terms of who was #1 last, it wound up winning the battle, but, in most of the other categories, they either tied or the other song beat it, thus, why it's "only" #14.
[13] Ladytron - Ghosts
Weeks: 14 | Peak: #2
Run: 3-3-2-3-2-4-3-4-4-7-10-12-15-18
Around this point is where the ranking really started to get tough. It's hard to ignore a song that spent its first nine weeks in the top four, with six of those weeks spent in the top three, but I'd argue that the twelve above "Ghosts" are just that much more special.
[12] The Mars Volta - Wax Simulacra
Weeks: 16 | Peak: #1(Three Weeks)
Run: 2-2-1-1-1-2-3-4-7-10-13-16-18-20-19-20
Another song that was on the very first Blokk of Rokk, "Wax Simulacra" was also the first hugely successful song in BoR history, spending its first seven weeks in the top three, and it probably would have spent more time there, if I had debuted the countdown a month prior. I so wanted to put this higher, personally, but I just couldn't.
[11] Chevelle - The Fad
Weeks: 17 | Peak: #1(Two Weeks)
Run: 14-11-11-13-16-13-5-2-1-1-2-2-5-9-13-17-20
The original longevity king, "The Fad" was yet another song that was on the first Blokk of Rokk, but it took nine weeks before it was able to reach the top spot. The start was slow, but the result was certainly not.
[10] Korn - Kiss
Weeks: 17 | Peak: #1(Three Weeks)
Run: 3-2-2-1-1-1-2-4-7-10-13-14-16-17-19-19-20
From the original longevity king, we go to the first song that seriously challenged the record. "Kiss" spent its first seven weeks in the top three, and it also refused to die, spending its final weeks on the countdown holding on for dear life.
[9] Filter - Soldiers of Misfortune
Weeks: 15 | Peak: #1(Four Weeks)
Run: 11-8-5-3-1-1-1-1-4-6-12-17-17-18-20
The song that, finally, broke the #1 record, "Soldiers of Misfortune" would barely be able to cherish it before The Offspring took it away, but it's still one of the biggest #1s of all time, even if the song dropped off quickly after.
[8] Ashes Divide - The Stone
Weeks: 15 | Peak: #1(Two Weeks)
Run: 6-4-4-3-5-1-1-3-3-4-6-9-10-15-20
The first of THREE Ashes Divide songs in the top ten, "The Stone" also holds the distinction of having made the biggest jump to #1 in BoR history. Yeah, it's only four spots, but no other song can say they made a bigger jump. It also spent its first eleven weeks in the top 6, which, I can safely say, very few songs have ever accomplished.
[7] The Music - The Spike
Weeks: 16 | Peak: #1(Three Weeks)
Run: 13-8-6-3-2-2-1-2-1-1-2-4-8-10-16-20
The song that went to battle with the #14 song, "World Long Gone", "The Spike" beat out Scars on Broadway in the long run with more impressive overall statistics. While it was also, like "World Long Gone", one of just three songs to return to #1, it also spent more weeks in the top ten, with thirteen. The only reason that this song is not higher is because of its hard drop off of the countdown.
[6] Ashes Divide - Enemies
Weeks: 19 | Peak: #2
Run: 14-7-9-5-3-2-3-2-4-3-3-5-8-10-14-16-18-20-20
This has to be a pretty strong countdown, when the song with the second most weeks in BoR history is only #6. It also spent thirteen consecutive weeks in the top ten, and, it can be argued, is the greatest bridesmaid-but-not-quite-the-bride in Blokk history.
[5] Kings of Leon - Sex on Fire
Weeks: 18 | Peak: #1(Three Weeks)
Run: 16-11-8-7-7-7-3-3-2-1-1-1-3-6-9-13-17-19
It becomes fairly obvious as to why "Sex on Fire" is higher than "Enemies" when you look at the most important stat of all: Peak position. While both spent thirteen weeks in the top ten, and "Enemies" spent one more week on the countdown, "Sex on Fire" wins out, simply because it was #1 and "Enemies" wasn't. It's also notable for its slow rise to the top, becoming only the second song to rise to #1 in its tenth week.
[4] Paramore - Decode
Weeks: 14 | Peak: #1(Four Weeks)
Run: 6-4-3-3-2-2-1-1-1-1-4-5-8-9
For a song that is still on the Blokk of Rokk to make the top 5 is astonishing, but it becomes less improbable when you look at the stats. It was in the top five for eleven weeks, and it still hasn't dropped out of the top ten, nevermind that it debuted fourteen weeks ago. Oh, and it just happens to be one of the longest running #1s of all time. Not bad at all. When this song's run is over, it may very well jump up into the top 3.
[3] Disturbed - Indestructible
Weeks: 22 (record-tying) | Peak: #4
Run: 14-11-12-9-9-8-11-14-13-12-12-12-10-6-5-4-4-6-9-12-16-18
Now, this one could cause some controversy, not because it isn't deserving, but because it may still be too *low*. "Indestructible" is one of only two songs to be on the countdown for twenty or more weeks, and it also has the rare distinction of being one of a select few to jump back into the top ten after falling out of it previously. So why is it only #3? Peak position and amount of time spent in the top ten, relative to the top two, is why it's not in the top two.
[2] Ashes Divide - The Prey
Weeks: 17 | Peak: #1(Five Weeks)
Run: 8-3-2-1-1-1-1-1-3-3-3-7-10-12-13-15-18
The second greatest #1 of all time clocks in at #2, and its run is notable for more than just its time spent at the top. It also spent ten weeks in the top 3 alone, which is a feat that only one other song has been able to match, and, if you remember, had a consecutive #1 run that only missed out on tying the record by one week. As impressive as "Indestructible" was, tying the longevity record, the run of "The Prey" was, simply, more impressive, even if it doesn't have the longevity to match.
[1] The Offspring - Hammerhead
Weeks: 22 (record-tying) | Peak: #1(Eight Weeks, record)
Run: 2-1-1-1-1-1-1-2-2-1-1-2-5-7-10-13-15-17-18-19-19-19
Unlike #3 and #2, there is no controversy at #1. While "The Prey" spent ten weeks in the top three, "Hammerhead" spent twelve weeks in the top TWO. Its fifteen weeks in the top ten is the record. Its four weeks at #2 ties the record. Its 22 weeks on the countdown ties the record. And, of course, its eight weeks at #1 is the record. This run at #1 also includes a jump back up to the top spot, all the more remarkable when you consider that "Hammerhead" had already broken the #1 record by that point. While deciding the rest of the top 20 and their rank was very tough, especially when we reached the top five, #1 was an easy decision. It may be a while before we see a song that challenges "Hammerhead" and its distinction as the greatest Blokk of Rokk song.
And that's that. I hope you enjoyed it, even without any graphics, and I HOPE that I can have the other two up tomorrow.

I was not in the least bit remotely shocked at all.
All 20 are awesome. No shock there.
Number one is "Hammerhead". No shock there.
Perhaps the only slight shock (if you can even call it that) is Disturbed not being #2 but even that isn't all that shocking.
Very predictable (and that is just the way I like it)
