Not exactly, I mean yes, but the blue ticks are proof that who you're talking with has opened your conversation and has actually seen the messages. Until now you knew that someone was online but that someone could have just been talking in other conversations and has yet to open yours, you know?

This is so annoying honestly, sometimes I ignore people on groups but now even group members know who read their messages... ugh
