I didn't read this all the way through but I don't agree. Katy Perry started out kind of promising and she's good at what she does but Madonna reigned supreme during her time, even amongst the Whitneys, Janets, and Cyndis. Katy Perry isn't really at the forefront of people's minds amongst her competitors Taylor, Beyonce, or Rihanna and she lacks the charisma and ruthlessness Madonna had. Bottom line: she isn't breaking any new ground, she's following a model that's already been established and proven successful. Madonna was self-made, at least more so than Katy, and definitely didn't have the almost relentless promo and marketing teams with her until much later in her career after she'd proven herself. Katy still hasn't proven she's got a loyal and steady following and her "success" is somewhat inconsistent but her team still pours $ into her non-stop to create the illusion that she's a legit superstar.

I agree but we could def do without the absolutely poetic idolatry that we always place on Madonna's career. It's not as illustrious and massive as everyone makes it out to be.

Anyway, Katy is certainly not Madonna, never will be Madonna and won't innovate or change the pop cultural landscape in the way Madonna did. Katy is just a very well functioning promotion tool. That's it.
