So apparently I haven't been making myself clear thus far, so here's an analogy.
---
Let's say you have a dog and a cat. They're roommates, and they've been really good friends for a long time now. Let's call them Rover and Sly.
One night, Sly is on his way out the door and he says, "Hey, Rover, I'm heading out to the Kitty Club tonight. Wanna come with me?"
And Rover says, "Eh, I don't know. Isn't that a club for cats?"
And Sly says, "Not at all! The Kitty Club is open to all pets, cats and dogs alike. As the club slogan goes, 'If you think cats and dogs are equally awesome, you're a kitty clubber!'"
Rover says, "Okay, I'll give it a shot."
So for the next few weeks, Rover tags along with Sly to his weekly Kitty Club outings. Sly introduces Rover to all his feline friends, and for the most part, they seem to be okay with Rover sitting in with them. Their conversations tend to gravitate towards subjects like yarn and catnip and chasing mice, so Rover feels a little left out. But other than that, he doesn't mind.
But then things start to take a turn for the worse. Some of the cats who frequent the club are openly hostile to Rover, glaring and hissing at him whenever he walks in. As the weeks go on, their harassment gets worse and worse. They'll "accidentally" knock over his drinks, sneer at him whenever he tries to enter a conversation, and crack anti-dog jokes whenever he's in earshot. At one point they cornered him in the restroom and told him, in no uncertain terms, that they don't take kindly to dogs in their club. Whenever Rover tries to complain to the manager, he'll say something along the lines of, "Oh, they don't speak for us. Of course you're welcome here."
Rover wants to believe him, of course, but those few cats are really ruining his nights, and the manager tends to just look the other way when they act up.
Rover also noticed that he tends to get a lot of dirty looks whenever he refers to himself as a "kitty clubber". When he tried to protest that the slogan of the club is all inclusive, one cat indignantly responded, "Is a dog really trying to lecture a cat about what it means to be a kitty clubber?"
And Rover can't argue with that, can he?
So after a couple months of this, Rover pulls his friend Sly to the side and says, "Listen, Sly, I don't think this is for me. I don't want to be a kitty clubber anymore."
And Sly says, "Why not?! Don't you think that dogs and cats are equally awesome?"
And Rover says, "I do. Don't get me wrong. But at the same time, it just seems like I'm not really wanted here."
And Sly says, "What are you talking about? My friends love you! Mr. Snuggles thinks you're a riot!"
And Rover says, "Yeah, most of your friends. But some of them really seem to want me gone. And those guys are really keeping me from having a good time here."

So what would you do, if you were Rover?
