Credible winners always sell brilliantly (Shayne, Leona and Alex) but she's also had the advantage of a much longer run in to Christmas after her win, singles sales picking up from the abysmal levels in 2005-06, and Woolworths going into administration and closing hundreds of stores across the country. They've been selling off their stock very cheaply with Alex's CD single being sold for just 10p in many stores - and even being given away free in some cases when you've bought other items! The last of the shops finally closed today, and administrators told the staff to get rid of everything - they were even selling the shelves and cash tills. This has given Alex a huge physical "sales" boost.
There was also the fact she was given a classic song to sing and the huge hype of the chart battle with Jeff Buckley's version ensuring massive publicity.

! With the fact that Woolworth's has just closed, they're giving away not only "Hallelujah" but all albums, for like £2. I went into Woolworth's in Glasgow, and they were selling Take That's The Circus for £3.50, and people are saying this album has become one of the fastest selling albums of the 21st century, there is only one reasonable explanation for that and that's Woolworth's closure.
