I don't think it is. I can't stand it when people write their sexuality in their bio in social networks. It's like, not among the most important things about you that you should say to introduce yourself.
Sexuality in GENERAL is honestly a scapegoat for millions of peoples. Since the beginning of time.
People just want something to complain about and it ended up being something as harmless as (legal and consensual) sexuality. Of course homosexuality becomes even more of a scapegoat though.
I think the issue is with stereotyping - many people feel "disgusted" when they see a guy who acts feminine or a girl who is masculine. This bothers them the most. Imagine a masculine gay guy and a feminine gay guy, who would be bullied more? People are just not used to seeing sexual labels crossed with genders. What makes it worse is that a masculine gay guy does not "show off" his sexuality, and most people associate gay traits with males being feminine, girls being masculine - stereotyping.
Most people are stupid tbh they do not try to think themselves, our society as a whole needs to progress in this issue
Society cannot deal with the idea of people being attracted to the same sex. Most equate being gay with wanting to be a woman, and society isn't comfortable with the idea of men not being 'men.' Tradition has it that guys and girls date and get married to eventually have a family. I can completely understand why people don't just wake up used to something they've never experienced or witnessed. I just wish people realized that tradition is always changing and adapting. It isn't a big deal to me because I am gay, but for some people who have sheltered lives or very little knowledge of gay men other than the token sassy gay BFF the idea can be very challenging.

Exactly and what sealed the nail in the coffin for these beliefs was the awareness of HIV, along with the linking of lgbt to pedophilia
