Album sales in 2008 were higher than they were in 2007 in the UK....surprising

I was responding to KingofBrits comment that sales would not be big at all this year with the credit crunch. I siad single sales will go up, albums down. The last few months have been good for music in the UK, but woolworths sold 20% of albums in the UK at one stage and they've closed now. It is surprising that sales albums sales increased here last year oveer 2007, but overall I think they peaked in 2004/2005. Albums continue to sell well over here compared to the pathetic US sales because they are perceived as 'cheap' now. Prices have come down alot.
