It should be noted that Divergent won the battle in the US, and by a significant margin.
The Maze Runner will likely end its theatrical run with just over $100 million stateside, whereas Divergent made over $150 million. It will be interesting to see if this trend continues with their respective sequels (Divergent winning domestically/MR globally) or if MR can eventually overtake the Divergent series on both fronts.
Who cares about US grosses tho? I don't think the studio cares where their money is coming from.
In general September is a much weaker sales month for movies.

Well I am sure dvd slaes will more then make up that difference
I was suprised by the international gross but considering the diverse cast it should be expected
divergent white bland front casting will be its sequel downfall
Lol the fact that the main character is a male has nothing to do with the success of this movie, TMR is a better movie than that Divergent mess, that's it (I don't know about the book because I haven't read Divergent).

My favorite movie of 2014 tbh
Except every article about its success pointed out how vital it was and how it allowed it to appeal to both genders. Some went further and talked about how even THG struggled with that for a moment. Certainly not the only factor, but it is one.
Edit: I'm not sure if I congratulated its success in here. I never expected this, pleasantly surprised by all of it.
king Dylan's impact tbh thats the reason i went to see it and Thomas Sangster, and many others too but i actually did enjoy it
I enjoyed both Divergent and TMR movies about the same. I havent read The Maze Runner's books though. Mostly cause I didnt get interested, but from opinions i trust which i usually agree with they didnt like the books either so i'll just watch the movies. I read the Divergent trilogy though because i got interested but i actually didnt really like it much.
Besides being the sequel, I think with TFIOS and Ansel getting popularity it might help give Insurgent a boost too.
