The only artist who can sell 10 million copies now is Adele, who just passed 11 million a couple of weeks ago with
21.
Swift is one of less than a handful of artist who can sell four million copies of a CD/Album in this current sales climate. The [I]Frozen[I] soundtrack, currently at 3.7 million, is the only CD/Album except for Swift's releases with a chance to go quadruple platinum.
Jason Aldean's
My Kinda Party and Katy Perry's
Teenage Dream are just under or just over triple platinum status with their releases from 2010-2011, and Eminem's
Recovery from 2010-2011 hit triple platinum.
I think some Christmas releases hit high numbers, and maybe Susan Boyle, but that may have been before 2010. Anyway, four million/quadruple-platinum is exceptional these days (unless you are Adele, for whom it would be a huge disappointment).
