Taylor Swift sold over 600,000 copies on the first day, so those of you that are thinking 650-750k and the numbers are way overblown need to keep her performance on just the first day in mind. She sold more on her first day than all of the other CDs sold in their first week this year. I will say 1.35 million.

Also, Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" is closing in on 3 million downloads, I will estimate 20 million US Spotify streams (GER-55 knows better). and her video on YouTube is probably over 60 million US streams. So, Taylor could achieve this record setting debut despite the song being available to everyone everywhere for three months.

And one more thing. I am not putting Britney Spears down in any way, but her "Oops I Did It Again" song was either released to only radio or possibly had a clumsy 12" Vinyl Maxi-Single available. And of course. there was no Spotify in 2000, so there was no easily accessible way to get the song before the Oops I Did It Again CD was released except by listening to the radio or watching MTV/VH1. The only CD single released from her Oops CD was "From The Bottom Of My Broken Heart", which went platinum, and was in the Top Ten Selling CD Singles of 2000-2009 (pre-downloads era too), Sadly, the song stalled at #14, even though I think it was one of her best singles, and why radio turned against the hit confused everyone.

We all know that if Adele breaks taylor's record the threads won't nearly be as big but that's expected though.

What is most impressive about it that it's not the sophemore album or coming after the brakthrough era for Taylor. She just got to another level with her 5th album, she's been keeping it for 4 years now.
