. Garnered widespread critical acclaim for it's faithfulness to comics and storylines
. Considered the 2nd best superhero cartoon show of all time
. Fox initially had a lot of resistance to the cartoon series before it became a success. They felt that the target audiences, kids under 10, wouldn't be interested in a romantic love triangle between Cyclops, Jean, and Wolverine. They also thought kids wouldn't keep up with a show that was serialized.
. Sidney Iwanter, an executive at Fox, originally planned on "ending" the series with a big bang ("Beyond Good and Evil - parts 1-4"). We even had planned to have characters leaving the team at the conclusion, but at the last minute Fox asked for more episodes. Unfortunately, at the time Marvel was filing for bankruptcy and could not afford to produce more episodes, so Saban funded them directly. This explains why the last six episodes looked different than the previous 70. So the show officially "ended" things again with "Graduation Day."
The series deals with issues that are not often dealt with in animated television shows, for example divorce, slavery, and religion, and the ongoing theme of the series is criticism of racism and intolerance. The series was also one of the more diverse shows aired on network television with male and female characters of various ages, ethnic and national backgrounds.
. Still the longest running marvel animated series of all time

yeah i'm pretty sure it was one of if not the highest rated saturday morning cartoon on the network (along with it's predecessor x men evolution, hell even x men evolution was created originally to be a predecessor to this series). Fox lost a huge portion of it's audience when it was ended.
And due to the success of the cartn it paved the way for the first men film ad every superhero film post 90's as well
Still remember this series and how Wolverine was so whip when it came to Jean. And then they tease us with Storm and Wolverine being a couple. Love that show so much.
The show was everything. I wish the movies were this good. Really they should just rip these off because the Dark Phoenix Saga really is the best reincarnation of the story. Ugh, now I want to watch

the pheonix saga was EVERYTHING. i remember hating but feeling sorry for Jean Grey at the same time. It was so crazy when they went to fight her on the other planet and they were fighting against all these other mutants. it was like their final push to save the phoenix.
i dont know how i remembered that but i was just so amazed as a kid when i would watch it
