How dare people make threads about someone's skin tone. That's disgusting on so many levels. I cannot at MODS allowing this foolishness.
It's bad enough we deal with growing up in society thinking having darker skin tone is BAD yet the white girls stay in the sun for hours to get a 'TAN' as they call it to appear darker then what they are but it's okay for them.
Do people not realize how many Hip-Hop/R&B female/male who they call 'Dark Skin' are successful?
Honestly, these discussions need to be had. They are reflective of what's happening in the real world. People should walk away from it more enlightened and empathetic. Race seems to prominent here, but other things like religion are also hot-button issues that need a chance to be hammered out in discussion.
Kudos if you're not racist and you live where racism is non-existent. But it is still a thing in the USA, and around the world. Certain things just need to change if humanity is truly going to advance as a whole.
As for immature people who do the most, some people on ATRL are just very naive to these issues, and some don't get that two wrongs don't make a right. The forum is really good though as it serves to broaden all of our perspectives on things.

Saying **** like 'Rihanna ain't Dark Skin' but Kelly Rowland is.... regardless, they are BLACK women. Black people come in different shades of color but do not sub them into different groups like they are a different race. That's annoying.

And I agree, I am saying this because we need to stop being people in categories like if Dark Skin is a race. Being black is already hard in the music industry but how does it feel when people put you in a group labeled 'dark skin'. People don't realize what they say.

What is wrong with acknowledging colorism? A "don't talk about racism because that causes more racism" tea. And Rihanna wouldn't even be considered dark skinned in Sweden so there's that.

Except skin tone and darkness IS a daily reality that determines how people are treated all over the world. We WILL acknowledge and discuss because it is a problem.
