Taylor Swift is extremely successful, but she's not the Queen of Pop.
Regardless of what she wants to call herself now, there's no changing the fact that Taylor started off her career as a Country artist. And I'm not not just speaking in regards to her sound -- but her radio play, singles sales success, ALBUM sales success, tour grossings, and the vast majority of her promo ALL came from the support she got from Country radio and the Country audience.
No other Pop girl got that kind of support. Not Madonna, not Janet, not Britney, not Rihanna, not Katy. Even when these girls tried it with Country they were shunned by the market that has been traditionally separated from other music genres (and, lets be real, racist).
You could argue that these girls got support from the Urban market in a way that Taylor really hasn't, but that still isn't fair. The Urban market is much small than Country, and has traditionally had closer ties to Pop. The two function as one and the same in many ways.
So considering how Taylor got most of her success and support for the majority of her career, I'm not going to say she WASN'T a Country just because she had a handful of Pop friendly songs on her albums. Without the support of Country -- she simply wouldn't be where she is today. Not even close. Hell, even now the way she talks about 1989 she makes it sound like an experiment; something "new" she's trying. How can you be the Queen of something you're just now trying out?
And since she's been Country most of this time, it just doesn't make sense to call her the Queen of Pop. It's not her category. I mean, whe might as well give the QoP/KoP title to a ton of other artists who weren't really Pop just because they sold a lot.
