IMO tablets are much better in longevity than phones. My sister's iPad 2 is going strong after 4 years.

Yes, my father gifted me one when they first became a trend. It doesn't even have a touchscreen, you have to navigate using buttons, a tragic mess that can't even play 360p videos without reseting the system two times and making cracking noises.

Never really seen the reason when I have a phone and a touchscreen laptop that works perfectly fine.
