Is 1989 Good because its a country artist taking a stab at pop, or is it really a innovative and fresh pop album that can compete with Prism, Unapalogetic, and Bangerz?
Its not innovative or fresh but its still a good pop album with great production and lyrics (unlike Prism, Una and others which are not that cohesive and are below this)
I mean, all Top 40 pop is the same tbh. It's all produced and written by the same incestuous group. Taylor's latest efforts are interchangeable between most pop girls. At least with country, she had her own style and sound. Now she's another Max Martin girl.

It definitely competes with Prism, Una' and Bangerz, they're all ****.
No, she really did a great job. Her main goal was to channel 80's pop music and it worked for her.
But I think her voice isn't for this kind of music.. Anything else but this, honestly.
I think she added her touch to all the songs i've heard so far, lyrically at least. But it all sounds very top 40. I do think the quality is higher than say... Katy Perry's Prism (which I use), but yeah.
The reason Taylor will always be in her own league is because how pop her **** may sound, her lyrics are always on point and it's not generic pop made for radio. It's talented pop.

Im conflicted, its sounds like a more innovative version of Prism...but that could just be because Prism is older and 1989 could just be following the current trends. Someone with a good musical ear please break it down for me!

Taylor Swift: 1989 review – leagues ahead of the pop competition
Why do people take Taylor Swift so much more seriously than her peers? Great songs, smart turns of phrase and a noticeable lack of the usual hollow pop platitudes all help
