NG Presents: Top 30 Albums of 2008: 18 Close Call Albums
Before getting into the top 4 albums, in no order, here are the 18 albums that missed my top 30 albums of 2008.
Common - Universal Mind Control
+ Best Tracks: Universal Mind Control, Changes, Punk Drunk Love (The Eye) (Feat. Kanye West), Announcement (Feat. Pharrell) +
- This album would have made my top 30 list if I didn't hear it way too late. Amazing album.
Danity Kane - Welcome To the Dollhouse
+ Best Tracks: Damaged, Bad Girl (Feat. Missy Elliott), Pretty Boy, Strip Tease +
- Great album until it gets old by the end of the year. "Damaged" still ****ing rules though.
TV on the Radio - Dear Science
+ Best Tracks: Golden Age, DLZ, Lovedog, Halfway Home +
- I love these guys, creative album. Too bad I heard it way too late. =/
Tokyo Police Club - Elephant Shell
+ Best Tracks: Sixties Remake, Tessellate, Juno, In a Cave +
- Their second effort is not as awesome as their first debut. However, I still like it!
Kerli - Walking on Air
+ Best Tracks: Love is Dead, Walking on Air, Strange Boy, Up Up Up +
- A really good album. It feels like I'm listening to Björk crashing into Fergie. Her voice is great.
The Kills - Midnight Boom
+ Best Tracks: Cheap and Cheerful, Getting Down, U.R.A. Fever, Last Day of Magic +
- The epic, "Cheap and Cheerful" leads me to download the album and I'm happy I did. It's a great album to jam to at a party.
Girl Talk - Feed the Animals
+ Best Tracks: Like This, Here's the Thing, Don't Stop, Set It Off +
- The whole album is a compilation of mash-up at its best. If you like new school to old school hip-hop music in alternative/dance mode, you'll love it from the beginning to the end.
Hot Chip - Made in the Dark
+ Best Tracks: Ready for the Floor, Bendable Poseable, One Pure Thought, Too Too Much +
- Electropop at its best. I still can't get over the amazingness of "Ready for the Floor."
Kylie Minogue - X
+ Best Tracks: Wow, Speakerphone, In My Arms, Nu-Di-Ty +
- Kylie really made a great album this year. All the songs are dance anthems especially "Wow" and "Speakerphone." Loves it!
The Virgins - The Virgins
+ Best Tracks: Private Affair, Love is Colder Than Death, Rich Girls, Radio Christiane +
- "Private Affair" is amazing, but the other tracks are as great as the single. Try listening to "Love is Colder Than Death" and "Rich Girls," they're brilliant.
Nas - Untitled
+ Best Tracks: Hero (Feat. Keri Hilson), SlyFox, Black President, Make the World Go Round (Feat. Chris Brown & The Game) +
- Not my favorite Nas album, he has far way better records. Anyway, I can't deny that "Hero" is great track.
Sam Sparro - Sam Sparro
+ Best Tracks: Black and Gold, Pocket, Too Many Questions, 21st Century Life +
- This album would have made my list if I didn't get sick of it so fast. Womp womp womp.
Jem - Down to Earth
+ Best Tracks: Aciiid!, It's Amazing, Crazy, Down to Earth +
- I love her last album, this year, Jem makes a nice album but the track that stands out for me is the dancefloor, "Aciiid!" Totally unexpected from you, Jem!
M83 - Saturdays = Youth
+ Best Tracks: Up!, Graveyard Girl, Kim & Jessie, We Own the Sky +
- I love M83! The track "Up!" alone makes this whole album a worth listening experience.
Weezer - The Red Album
+ Best Tracks: Heart Songs, Pork and Beans, Troublemaker, Cold Dark World +
- Now that I think about It, I wished I listened to this album more. I love the ballad, "Heart Songs." It's just Weezer at their best.
The Teenagers - Reality Check
+ Best Tracks: **** Nicole, Starlett Johansson, French Kiss, Wheel of Fortune +
- The UK vibe and talking seductively in their songs, make The Teenagers' album stand out for me. Try listening to "**** Nicole", awesome track.
Day26 - Day26
+ Best Tracks: Silly Love, Got Me Going, Since You've Been Gone, I'm the Reason +
- I still listen to R&B! I love this album at one point, but then it got old. Can't deny that everytime "Silly Love" comes on, I love it more and more.
Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
+ Best Tracks: A-Punk, Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa, Boston, Walcott +
- The upbeat and playful UK vibe make me want to play this album over and over. Unfortunately, I didn't play it more enough.
More updates on the single list tonight and stay tuned for the albums I missed out before but just heard in 2008.
