I don't want to start **** but for the people talking about taking meds = everything is better...You literally have NO idea. I watched a documentary and that's actually become a PROBLEM in America. Lemme not...

this.
My mom has had depression and the meds only made her robotic and unfeeling. When she got off them, and really changed her life by changing her perspective, her depression disappeared.
Meds just numb the pain, but they aren't a longterm solution. And like with kids who take ADD medicine, they could have side effects that we don't know of yet.

Stress, such as work, can lead her into a depression. Either way, if she doesn't manage herself, she will slip into a depression.
At least she is talking about her depression openly. The stigma and shame around mental illness is disgusting. The stress of feeling alone is another thing that can lead someone into a state of depression. There has already been two celebrity deaths, this year, surrounding people who were in deep in depression and had to fake their happiness to friends, family, and the public. Their money did not make them happy.
Can we please get it together and be happy that she is open about her condition. The sarcastic post and the blatant give no ****s is absolutely disgusting, especially considering the subject manner.

Not liking the tone of that guy. Gaga's concerts have always been a place in which personal truths are able to be shared, from both herself and the concertgoers. Scathing humour does nothing but trivialise important issues such as mental illness, as others have mentioned here already.

I know. Poor Gaga. I feel so sorry for her and her hard life. She's been through so much. She's such a strong person. Thanks for volunteering the information and telling us all you take medication for mental illness and depression, Gaga. Now your strength can help so many others.

Because of her money, she has better access to the support systems necessary to pull herself out of it. I can link you to ten studies citing better mental health outcomes for the rich than for the middle class and poor.
So yes, money does matter. Statistically speaking.

Depression is a chemical thing. (I know companies say this to get people to buy psychiatric drugs but it's true) It has nothing to do with your surroundings a lot of the time.

You're not a doctor (at least I hope not). Saying this kind of stuff is really irresponsible. You're belittling people who are ill and take medication to combat that illness. Every case is different, like physical illness. People can respond to medication differently. No one person is the same. That is the doctor and psychiatrists job, not yours.

It's not really up to you to say, considering you've never been on them I'm assuming. And people with real depression, they're born with an unbalanced brain and NEED it or something else like exercise to cope. It doesn't fix everything but it keeps them stable when they can't even get out of bed because they're so mentally sick.
You can't get addicted to antidepressants. They take 6 weeks to work. It's drugs like Xanax + Attivan that are dangerous.

It's beautiful that she's open about this. There's nothing shameful about having a mental illness, especially if you're seeking treatment and taking care of yourself.
It shows the treatment has been effective, because we've she's been very happy, grateful and confident.

Well yes, of course, but that's a real begrudging way to look at an ill person. She is ill. It's not something you should ever look at and be jealous of. Also, that's not her fault as an ill person. It's your governments corrupt morals.

Depression is after all a physical originated disease. It's not when you're continually sad, it's when you are continually sad FOR NO REASON. Your brain is not synthesising the right substances hence you need medication to correct this change in your neurotransmissors' balance.
So you go Gaga

I find it interesting to see people reacting differently to certain singers admitting their problems and then using those same problems as a means of attack for other singers.

Lol, don't worry. I would never choose to become a doctor. The job is simply too boring, imo.
You are right in that depression manifests itself in many ways for different people, but there is an overarching trend. It's no coincidence that depression is on track to be the #1 disease in the World by 2020, and is already the 2nd leading cause of disability around the World (according to the WHO, at least) as we grow more globalized and technologically advanced as a species. Sociological causes to depression have just as much merit as causes for depression as genetic/biological, and the science is still uncertain about exactly which is the most important/critical. There are famous stories of depressive people that snapped (while ON medication) and murdered their children, etc etc. There are also a whole list of FDA approved drugs that have side effects like suicide, depression (which may be adding to the depression epidemic) etc, but which are kept on the market thanks to corporate interests.
So yes, I do question drugs, I do question doctors, I do question the lobbyists that argue depression is 100% chemical based because it is laughably untrue in light of everything.
