Yeah, sure. People who are currently buying Crazy in Love are doing so because of the Super Bowl performance

How about the HBO broadcast of the Beyonce/Jay tour?

These don't impact sales much. Touring usually doesn't really impact U.S. sales.

You're trying to use this as an excuse, but the numbers and facts speak for themselves.
Yes - because Beyoncé is an esteemed performer and is able to grace such massive platforms as Glastonbury and The Superbowl, she is reinjecting her old music into pop culture. Beyoncé's ability as a performer has been a huge contribution toward her incredible current standing in the industry and it has done the same for her music. A chunk of Beyoncé's catalog is currently more relevant than a lot of Britney's singles.

HBO is a channel
it broadcasted the tour to millions of people

Digital sales were bigger in 2004 than in 2003. Anyway, you should focus on the present:
969. Beyoncé – Crazy In Love
???. Britney Spears – Toxic

How are "Toxic's" 5.5M sales suspicious when it has outsold "Crazy In Love" in just about every market and you have CIL at 5.3M?

The Superbowl is the biggest promotional platform in the U.S. Mix that with the fact that she's been releasing different versions of the track and just put a tour special out and it's not that surprising that it's doing better than "Toxic" atm.

And? It, at best, impacted its sales for a few hours/days.

Crazy in Love sold a lot in Japan and it will probably end up outselling Toxic in the U.S. too Can you please break Toxic's sales down? I'm curious.
The Super Bowl impacted Beyoncé's digital sales for three or four weeks at best. Well, it's doing better at the moment (it's quite always doing better, tbh) because it's better and more remembered.

Are you kidding me? You literally just called chart positions impact on the last page
Btw, according to Billboard's last updates (not using estimations):
Toxic - 1,815,000 digital copies (June 2012)
Crazy In Love - 1,597,000 digital copies (October 2012)
As for CiL being more covered, Melanie Martinez, the girl who sings the theme song for AHS, is famous for her cover of "Toxic" on The Voice. Alex & Sierra happened because of their cover of "Toxic." I don't see how it's close to forgotten on talent shows.
As for impact on pop culture, Brit's nude body suit/hostess outfit>>>Bey in Daisy Duke's outfit.
And that's just Lady Gaga
|
No. Catalog sales, recurrent airplay, and streams are indications of relevance in 2014, hence why they can be used as measurements of remembrance. Toxic charting marginally higher than CIL in a few markets at the time of their releases doesn't prove that it's more impactful.
Not sure where Toxic now but CIL is now at 2,050,000.
Crazy In Love was covered on The Voice 3x last season, was on the soundtrack of one of the biggest movies of last year and is going to be on the soundtrack one of the most anticipated movies of 2015. It's covers are significant and more prevalent than Toxic.
And Britney was not the first to wear that sparkly outfit, so why does Gaga had to have been copying Britney?

It's a close one but I say In The Zone because it charted better WW and I remember that era more
People gotta give Brit her props for being able to compete Bey's solo debut with her 4th studio album tho
And Toxic also did better WW than CIL did

You spend more time in the Britney receipts thread than me. I was hoping you could do one for both
How does the Superbowl only impact someone's sales for three-four weeks? It's the biggest promotional platform in the U.S. and second biggest WW. Throw that together with her just having a tour special on HBO, releasing new versions of the single, doing a commercial for "50 Shades of Grey" featuring a new version, etc. and it's clear that it's only so big because it's being promoted. "Toxic" generally has much stronger catalogue sales and that's why it's sold so much more.

Britney was the first, and only one, famous for gluing Diamonds to her nude body. And Gaga isn't "copying," she's paying homage. She even stated it herself in 2008. Keep up, sis.
Toxic has passed the 2M mark, and that's without physical singles and mobile certifications.
Toxic generally has stronger catalogue sales than CiL. CiL only has stronger catalogue sales from 2013-2014 thanks to the constant promo.

Toxic was also covered several times on the voice this year and none of the CIL covers are memorable...while the covers of Toxic by Melanie Martinez on the voice and Alex & Sierra are both extremely memorable and the highlights of their season.
Britney wasn't the first to wear that outfit but she is definitely known for it and anyone that wears it is compared to her.

I don't, or I'd know how it sold 5.5 million otherwise
You wouldn't ask if you followed Bey's iTunes performances closely. That commercial impacted Crazy in Love's sales for a week, or two at best.

I like ITZ better, but DIL had the most hits + one that is still being covered today.
And I think maybe ITZ had the bigger tour, Bey only did a small one is the US.
Overall, the best era to me was DIL.
ITZ would have done so much more had Brit not had that knee injury.

In The Zone will ALWAYS be the best pop album ever created.
Baby Boy is my favorite song by Beyoncé anyway.
