That really isn't the original though. The story you linked was a 'romantic' historical-fiction written in the 17th century.

The character was originally depicted in a poem from the 6th century, which had a way happier ending where she went back home after the war and surprised her comrades that they were fighting alongside a chick for 12 years lol.

She is listed in Disney's official lineup of Disney princesses which makes her a Disney Princess. Some others mentioned in this thread, like Kida, Esmeralda, and Megara, aren't.
