In Australia, we had really bad bushfires a couple years ago so they blacklisted a song on radio (a pretty big deal here, where one network is in control of a tonne of radio stations) called "Burn" by an Australian Idol contestant - even though it had nothing to do with fire or burning really except for the title and the line "I need a doctor 'cause this is startin' to burn".

!!! It's not hard to understand why either. These reactions are ridiculous. Not saying superstitions aren't, but it's not that serious. They'll start to play it again after the World Series.

There might be an element of superstition, but I think the biggest reason is because everybody that has been rooting for the Royals to win has been singing Lorde's song. People on twitter tweeting "Royals" lyrics every time the Royals score for example. So, San Francisco banning the song as a way to shun the Royals and support the Giants is understandable.
