Do you think Rihanna is the most globally known black pop girl ever? Unfortunately most black female artists have been mostly local or overshadowed by other artists outside the US. But Rihanna can compete with Madonna on popularity on a worldwide scale, her songs reach out to the whole world. Even her flop songs get lots of views on Youtube. I think her reach is wider than any other black female pop star ever and she proved that a black pop girl can become as popular all around the world as they are in the US.

Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Beyonce, etc. are more globally known.
Whitney's The Bodyguard era was almost bigger than Rih's entire career. There is no way Rih is more globally known when she has so much less global support than these other acts.
J-Lo is more known than Bey but her tours still can compete with Bey for example.
