Brooklyn has improved drastically! Two decades ago the only nice places in Brooklyn were like southern Brooklyn with all the homes. Downtown Brooklyn, Coney Island and East New York were awful. Gorl, I use to live in East New York. It was the pits when I left. I know they step up a GameStop and other stores on Pitkin ave to make it look upstanding, but when I visit there it is still the same. Ratchet, ratchet, ratchet. Crown Heights is more or less getting worse. Bushwick/Williamburgs is this faux hipster haven. Coney Island is the pits. Canarsie is a mess. Downtown Brooklyn is okay. Flatbush will always be a mess, and that just the way it is.

I live in Queens and I know their is crime, but it just feels safer to me then when I lived in BK. I can walk to my door at 1am and not feel like I'm about to get rushed and robbed.

When I lived in BK, I got robbed for some Yu-Gi-Oh cards.

There are definitely areas of Brooklyn that gentrification has transformed into affluent safe havens for mostly white folks. Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, Park Slope, Boreum Hill and Dumbo immediately come to mind. I lived in Cobble Hill last year before moving to Manhattan and would routinely walk home drunk from the subway at 3 am without issue.

I don't get why people are saying Brooklyn hasn't changed unless they live in still scary areas like East NY, which is still better than it was 15 years ago. My parents would never let me go there then. At least I'll go in daylight now.
