Let's look at it from a film franchise, a book series and an overall brand.

The Harry Potter film series is the highest grossing franchise worldwide(+7.7 billion $$$$) and taking into account one-story series it will most likely remain as the highest grossing one for a long time(James Bond could cone for that amount in like 4-5 movies and Marvel universe in like 2,but those are not one story franchises, the onky one behind it is star wars with 4.5 billion and taking into account Disney's new trilogy maybe in 10 years it could top Harry Potter)

The Harry Potter books have sold over 450,000,000(and counting) issues worldwide making it the highest selling book story only after the bible.

The Harry Potter Brand has amassed for it's author an estimated 2.2 billion $ in revenue and is valuated amongst the biggest entretainment brands in the world.

But the question is, will HP stand the test of time?

Harry Potter is the biggest bit of pop culture for the last several decades, no arguing it.

And I think it will stand the test of time. At the very least for another few decades. It's still a hugely relevant and successful brand right now 7 years after the last book and 3 years after the last movie, meanwhile more recent stuff like Twilight is pretty much totally forgotten already.

It's the biggest pop culture phenomenon of the milennium, and amongst the biggest of all time.


Do not come for Harry his book receipts, box office receipts, theme park receipts, merchandise receipts.
Do not come for Potterheads their 100,000+ fan fictions, their stage productions, their wrock music.
Do not come for JK her status as the first person to become a billionaire by writing.


Harry Potter is the universal fandom, and it will live forever. Now go turn on ABC Family and watch Harry Potter week like a good boy.

People stood in a 15 hour line because a new ride opened at the theme park this summer and PLENTY of people have been watching Harry Potter week on ABC Family. But sure. Completely forgotten.

i already plan on reading the books to my niece when she's old enough and then let her see the movies and watch her face light up when she see's the world come to life as I did.

It was bigger than all our faves thats for sure. Harry Potter had many peaks and broke many records. The #1 film series and only 2nd to the bible.

lol, Universal just opened up a whole new section of their Harry Potter theme park due to its overwhelming success + demand for more. Rowling is currently working on a whole new trilogy of films that will smash with ease. There is even a new HP play coming to West End in the next few years.

Between books, DVDs, merchandise, the theme park, film exhibits around the world, etc. I would not be surprised if the Harry Potter brand continues to generate more money every year than most of ATRL's faves do in their whole careers.
