To be fair, I think most people who have been doing their reading already knew this ISIS situation was only leading to one thing. 1984 teas with this endless war.

I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to this if it's what is necessary to eliminate the threat ISIS poses. This isn't the same as fighting a country, this is a terrorist group that needs to be stopped.

However, if it comes to a war, I really hope that the situation is handled the best that it can be - troops' lives are not to be taken for granted, and mistakes will cost lives and time that we can't necessarily afford to risk.

As for the other issue, the hysteria over ebola is not media-manufactured to distract from ISIS. It's another extremely critical problem and both are deservedly getting loads of attention - at any given time, both occupy spots in the top 5 topics on Google News, just to name a small bit of evidence. When anything notable with ISIS happens, the story is immediately the hottest topic, so I don't think anyone's trying to distract.

Since when? My sister's boyfriend explicitly stated that they could only call home in case of emergencies. He's in the Marines.

My brother is currently away at boot camp for the Navy and his wife (who just retired from the Navy herself) said he would get 1 phone call.

It varies per boot camp. Some even allow attendees to keep their cell phones when they're not actively training.

The US Marine's are the most hardcore of any of the US military branches. They wouldn't pull out initiates before they even graduate INTO the marines. They don't consider you one until you graduate from boot camp. I received a letter everyday from my boyfriend.

Second, even if they did pull them out of bootcamp, they wouldn't let such sensitive information like that be shared over the phone.

Supposedly they feel like they've received enough training that if need be they would pull them out. Maybe he meant after their 12 weeks at Boot Camp and graduation that they wouldn't require them to complete infantry school need be, but I'm just telling you what was relayed to me. This particular class was shipped out to Parris Island, SC August and are set to graduate the week of Thanksgiving. Her boyfriend is supposed to complete Infantry School at Camp Pendleton in CA.
