25. T.I. f/ Rihanna “Live Your Life"
Album: Paper Trail
Genre: Hip-Hop, Pop
Producer: Just Blaze & Canei
US Billboard Hot 100: #1
T.I. and Rihanna join forces to make one of the most distinctive sounds of the year in pop music. At first listen, the
'Dragostea din tei' sample sound very weird and out of place, but after a few spins, you get used to it and actually makes the song even catchier.
Live Your Life is a strongly upbeat and affirming response to people constantly talking about T.I.’s personal life and legal troubles, using a live and let live attitude throughout the whole song. Rihanna’s last verse in the song is without a doubt the highlight as she sings with a strong attitude lyrics such as
”come walk in my shoes, seeing the way I’m living, if you really want to”. The songs brings sides from both artists that we haven’t seen in the past, and is without a doubt one of the strongest collaborations of the year.
24. Pink “So What"
Album: Funhouse
Genre: Pop/Rock
Producer: Max Martin
US Billboard Hot 100: #1
Pink made a solid comeback this year earning her first number one in the US. Only Pink can make a song about her recent break-up and actually make fun of it.
So What is amazing from beginning to end and the chorus is already an anthem that was heard basically everywhere, radio loved it. The lyrics are expected to be great as she calls her ex-husband a tool and even mentions Jessica Simpson; one of the best parts is at the beginning when she sings
”I guess I just lost my husband, I don’t know where he went, so I’m gonna drink my money, I’m not gonna pay his rent.” The video also puts the song in a whole new level, only Pink can deliver a video like that. Pink definitely delivered one of the best tracks of the year like only she does, hands down.
