Slay, damn it. Best episode since they cleared the prison. Good stuff.
Carol is a brilliant character. If you'd have said this is what she'd be now when the first season was airing, I'd have laughed. She seemed to be such an obvious sympathy character at the time - y'know, the ones that die and it's supposed to represent the loss of all that is good and innocent and whatnot. SLAY, writers.
The Season 5 debut of The Walking Dead pulled in 17.3 million total viewers on Sunday at 9 PM with 11.0 million among adults 18-49. That viewership and demo series record chews up the previous high of 16.1 million watching and 10.4 million among the 18-49s that the Season 4 premiere of the blockbuster series drew on October 13 last year..
That was easily the best season premier since the very first "Days Gone Bye." It does my heart so much good to see the hero of it all be a 40-something year old woman who had to overcome her fear and demons to become the coolly smart and efficient killing machine we got last night. I've always loved Carol even when she really really didn't make it easy, so this felt almost like a reward for hanging in with her character for so long. I'm also not really what I'd call a shipper, but damn if the Carol-Daryl reunion didn't absolutely get me right in the feels. Him falling into her like he couldn't bear to let her go just yet completely put it over.
I remember seeing something that Melissa thought she was only going to be on for a few episodes the first season, and that it would just be a a small job. Now she's one of the, if the not THE, main characters on the biggest show on television!
